Designed for personnel with responsibilities involving workplace emergency preparedness, evacuation, fire prevention, and hazard recognition.

Completion of this training does not, by itself, designate an individual as a Competent Person, emergency responder, firefighter, or fire protection professional.

Description

This training provides safety instruction for personnel with responsibilities involving emergency preparedness, exit routes, emergency action plans, fire prevention, and workplace fire protection. The course focuses on recognizing emergency and fire hazards and understanding the measures necessary to support safe evacuation and emergency response.

Topics may include exit route requirements, means of egress, emergency evacuation procedures, emergency action plans, fire prevention plans, employee alarm systems, emergency communication, evacuation responsibilities, assembly areas, accountability procedures, fire hazards, ignition sources, combustible materials, portable fire extinguishers, fire protection equipment, and emergency preparedness.

Participants will receive instruction designed to improve their ability to recognize unsafe conditions, identify potential fire and emergency hazards, understand evacuation and emergency planning requirements, and support implementation of workplace emergency procedures.

This training is intended to supplement an employer’s site-specific Emergency Action Plan, Fire Prevention Plan, emergency procedures, fire protection program, and required employee training. Completion of this course does not, by itself, designate or certify an individual as a Competent Person, emergency responder, firefighter, or fire protection professional.

Employers remain responsible for developing and implementing applicable emergency and fire prevention programs, assigning responsibilities, providing site-specific training, maintaining required emergency systems and equipment, and determining employee competency based on assigned duties and workplace conditions.

Applicable references may include OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart E, OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart L, applicable requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1926, and other applicable emergency preparedness and fire protection requirements and recognized safe work practices.
