A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides Screening Plant Operator Safety Training designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical understanding necessary to safely operate mobile, portable, and stationary screening equipment used in aggregate production, construction, demolition, recycling, quarrying, mining-related operations, road building, and other applicable material-processing activities.

Screening operations can expose operators and ground personnel to vibrating equipment, conveyors, rotating components, moving machinery, falling material, stored energy, dust, respirable crystalline silica, excessive noise, pinch and crush points, blocked material, mobile equipment, electrical hazards, hydraulic systems, and other serious hazards. This training program addresses equipment familiarization, pre-operation inspection, screening systems, conveyors, guarding, feed and discharge areas, dust control, hazardous-energy control, blockage response, work-area safety, manufacturer requirements, and operator responsibilities.

Training Discipline: Screening Operations, Aggregate Processing & Heavy Equipment Safety

Equipment: Mobile Screening Plant / Portable Screening Plant / Stationary Screening Plant / Vibrating Screen / Scalping Screen / Trommel Screen, as Applicable

Training Format: Training may include formal instruction, demonstrations, practical equipment training, and evaluation of operator performance, as applicable.

Practical Training: Practical training should be appropriate to the specific screening plant the participant is expected to operate. Training should address controls, feed systems, screen decks, conveyors, emergency stops, dust-control systems, energy-isolation points, mobile-equipment interaction, and actual workplace conditions.

Machine Guarding Notice: Screening plants contain belts, pulleys, shafts, vibrating mechanisms, conveyors, drive systems, and other moving components capable of causing severe caught-in, entanglement, crushing, or amputation injuries. Required guards and protective devices should remain properly installed and functional.

Vibrating Equipment Notice: Screens and related components may continue moving after power has been removed. Personnel should account for equipment run-down, residual movement, stored energy, and manufacturer procedures before accessing hazardous areas.

Blockage & Material Buildup Notice: Plugged screens, bridged material, and accumulated material can release unexpectedly. Personnel should not reach into or enter hazardous equipment areas while machinery is energized. Blockages should be addressed using manufacturer procedures and applicable hazardous-energy-control practices.

Silica & Dust Safety Notice: Screening rock, concrete, masonry, sand, aggregate, or other silica-containing materials can generate airborne dust, including respirable crystalline silica. Employers should evaluate applicable exposure requirements and implement appropriate engineering controls, work practices, exposure assessment, housekeeping, training, and respiratory protection when required.

Respiratory Protection Notice: When respiratory protection is required for occupational exposure, employers are responsible for implementing the applicable respiratory-protection program, including medical evaluation, fit testing, training, respirator selection, use, and maintenance.

Energy-Control Notice: Personnel should not remove guards, enter hazardous equipment areas, clear blockages, replace screen media, clean dangerous components, or perform servicing unless hazardous energy has been appropriately isolated and controlled according to applicable procedures.

Mobile Equipment Interaction Notice: Loaders, excavators, haul trucks, crushers, and other mobile equipment may operate near screening plants, feed areas, discharge conveyors, and stockpiles. Employers should establish traffic routes, exclusion zones, communication procedures, visibility controls, and pedestrian separation appropriate to the operation.

MSHA Applicability Notice: Screening operations performed at mines or other operations subject to Mine Safety and Health Administration requirements may be governed by additional MSHA standards, training requirements, site procedures, and task-training obligations. This course should not be represented as automatically satisfying MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 training requirements unless the applicable training is separately provided and properly documented.

Equipment-Specific Training Notice: Screening plants vary significantly in design, controls, screen mechanisms, feed systems, conveyors, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, emergency controls, and safety features. Operators should receive instruction and familiarization appropriate to the specific equipment they are expected to operate.

Employer Responsibility Notice: Completion of an A.R.G. classroom or knowledge-based training component does not by itself authorize an individual to operate a screening plant. Employers remain responsible for determining applicable requirements and ensuring equipment-specific instruction, practical training, evaluation, authorization, supervision, machine guarding, exposure controls, hazardous-energy control, protective equipment, and documentation appropriate to the equipment, task, and workplace.

Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete applicable training and evaluation requirements may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of the Screening Plant Operator Safety Training program.

The certificate documents training completed and should not be represented as an OSHA-issued or MSHA-issued credential, governmental operator license, or governmental certification.
