1403 – EM 385-1-1 Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) Professional Training – 24 Hour
A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides a comprehensive 24-hour professional training program designed for safety professionals, supervisors, managers, and other personnel who perform or are preparing to perform Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) responsibilities on projects subject to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Safety and Occupational Health requirements.
This instructor-led professional training program is based on the current EM 385-1-1, Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Requirements, dated 15 March 2024, and focuses on the knowledge, responsibilities, documentation, hazard-control processes, and safety management practices associated with SSHO functions.
The program provides documented Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) professional training and is structured to address subjects relevant to the competency and continuing professional development of personnel performing SSHO-related duties.

SSHO Qualification Notice: Completion of this training program does not by itself designate, certify, or qualify an individual as an accepted Site Safety and Health Officer for a specific USACE project or contract. SSHO qualification and acceptance are subject to the applicable EM 385-1-1 requirements, required safety experience, OSHA 30-hour training or an accepted equivalent, documented SOH competency training, contract requirements, and acceptance of the required SSHO designation documentation by the appropriate contracting authority.
24-Hour SOH Training Notice: The current EM 385-1-1 establishes documented Safety and Occupational Health competency-training requirements for certain SSHO levels. Applicability and acceptance of training hours remain subject to the individual’s qualifications, training history, contract requirements, and the applicable USACE contracting authority.
Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete applicable course requirements may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of 24 hours of EM 385-1-1 SSHO professional training. The certificate documents training completed and should not be represented as a USACE-issued certification, governmental license, or automatic SSHO designation.
