Suspended Scaffold (Swing Stage) Safety Training
The Suspended Scaffold (Swing Stage) Safety Training program provides comprehensive safety training for employees, supervisors, competent persons, contractors, and other personnel who work with, use, inspect, or oversee suspended scaffold systems.
The program focuses on hazard recognition, safe work practices, fall protection, scaffold components, suspension systems, access, inspection requirements, and the safe use of suspended scaffolds commonly referred to as swing stages.
Program Objectives
Upon successful completion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Recognize common hazards associated with suspended scaffolds and swing stages.
- Identify major components of suspended scaffold systems.
- Understand basic suspension scaffold setup and support requirements.
- Recognize hazards associated with suspension ropes, wire ropes, hoists, and supporting devices.
- Understand the purpose and proper use of outrigger beams, counterweights, and tiebacks.
- Recognize fall hazards associated with suspended scaffold operations.
- Understand applicable personal fall arrest and guardrail system requirements.
- Recognize electrical hazards and maintain appropriate clearances from energized sources.
- Understand safe access and egress considerations.
- Recognize loading, stability, and platform hazards.
- Conduct basic pre-use visual inspections and identify conditions requiring corrective action.
- Recognize unsafe conditions that require work to stop until corrected.
- Understand employee responsibilities when working from suspended scaffolds.
- Apply safe work practices during suspended scaffold operations.

Regulatory Reference
This training addresses suspended scaffold safety concepts associated with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart L — Scaffolds, including applicable requirements of 29 CFR 1926.451 and 29 CFR 1926.454.
Certificate of Completion
Participants who successfully complete the applicable training requirements and required assessments may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training.
Employer Responsibilities
Employers remain responsible for ensuring that employees receive training appropriate to the specific scaffold system, equipment, workplace conditions, hazards, manufacturer instructions, and assigned duties. Where applicable, employers are also responsible for designating qualified and competent persons and ensuring required inspections and supervision are performed.
