Process Safety Management (PSM) – Train the Trainer

The Process Safety Management (PSM) – Train the Trainer program provides advanced instructor-focused training for safety professionals, supervisors, managers, trainers, and other qualified personnel responsible for delivering Process Safety Management awareness and workplace safety training.

The program is designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of Process Safety Management principles, major PSM program elements, hazard recognition, employee participation, training responsibilities, and effective methods for communicating PSM concepts to employees working in or around processes involving highly hazardous chemicals.

Program Objectives

Upon successful completion of this program, participants should be able to:

• Explain the fundamental purpose and principles of Process Safety Management.
• Recognize the general scope and application of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119.
• Identify the major elements of a Process Safety Management program.
• Explain the importance of process safety information.
• Discuss fundamental Process Hazard Analysis concepts.
• Recognize the importance of operating procedures and safe work practices.
• Explain employee participation and training responsibilities.
• Recognize contractor-related responsibilities within PSM-covered operations.
• Discuss pre-startup safety review and mechanical integrity concepts.
• Recognize hot work, management of change, and incident investigation requirements.
• Explain emergency planning and response considerations associated with process safety.
• Communicate PSM concepts effectively to employees and other trainees.
• Plan and organize instructor-led PSM awareness and safety training.
• Apply fundamental adult-learning and training-delivery techniques.
• Document training and participant completion appropriately.

This program incorporates educational concepts and training materials originally developed through the OSHA Susan Harwood Training Grant Program, Grant No. SH-27662-SH5 (2015), including Process Safety Management Train-the-Trainer materials.

Trainer Authorization Notice

Completion of this program documents successful completion of A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health’s PSM Train-the-Trainer training requirements. It does not independently grant OSHA authorization, government licensure, or regulatory authority to issue OSHA credentials. Employers remain responsible for determining trainer qualifications and ensuring that workplace-specific training satisfies all applicable regulatory requirements.
