Training Discipline: Soil Stabilization, Full-Depth Reclamation, Road Construction & Heavy Equipment Safety

Equipment: Soil Stabilizer / Road Reclaimer / Full-Depth Reclaimer / Soil Mixing Machine, as Applicable

Training Format: Training may include formal instruction, demonstrations, practical equipment training, and evaluation of operator performance, as applicable.

Practical Training: Practical training should be appropriate to the specific soil stabilizer or reclaimer the participant is expected to operate. Training should address controls, steering, rotor or mixing drum systems, cutting components, material-additive systems, visibility, traffic conditions, utility hazards, energy-isolation points, and other equipment-specific operating characteristics.

Rotor / Cutting Drum Safety Notice: Soil stabilizers and reclaimers contain powerful rotating drums, cutting tools, and mixing components capable of causing severe or fatal injuries. Personnel should remain clear of hazardous rotor areas while equipment is operating, and required guards and protective systems should remain properly installed and functional.

Silica & Dust Safety Notice: Soil stabilization and pavement reclamation can disturb soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and other materials that may contain crystalline silica. Employers should evaluate applicable exposure requirements and implement appropriate engineering controls, work practices, exposure assessment, housekeeping, training, and respiratory protection when required.

Lime, Cement & Stabilization Material Notice: Lime, cement, fly ash, and other stabilization materials can create airborne dust and may cause eye, skin, or respiratory irritation or chemical injury. Employers should review applicable Safety Data Sheets and implement appropriate handling procedures, exposure controls, hygiene practices, and personal protective equipment.

Respiratory Protection Notice: When respiratory protection is required for occupational exposure, employers are responsible for implementing the applicable respiratory-protection program, including medical evaluation, fit testing, training, respirator selection, use, and maintenance.

Underground Utility Notice: Reclamation and stabilization operations can disturb pavement and soil to substantial depths. Available plans, utility markings, site information, and applicable utility-location procedures should be reviewed before operations where underground utilities or structures may be present.

Mobile Equipment Interaction Notice: Stabilization operations frequently involve water trucks, binder spreaders, graders, rollers, loaders, haul trucks, and other equipment. Employers should establish traffic routes, communication procedures, exclusion zones, and pedestrian separation appropriate to the operation.

Energy-Control Notice: Operators should not enter hazardous rotor areas, remove guards, clear jams, replace cutting tools, clean dangerous components, or perform servicing unless equipment has been appropriately shut down and hazardous energy controlled according to applicable procedures.

Equipment-Specific Training Notice: Soil stabilizers and reclaimers vary significantly in controls, dimensions, rotor systems, cutting tools, additive systems, hydraulic systems, safety devices, and operating characteristics. Operators should receive instruction and familiarization appropriate to the specific equipment they are expected to operate.

Employer Responsibility Notice: Completion of an A.R.G. classroom or knowledge-based training component does not by itself authorize an individual to operate a soil stabilizer or reclaimer. Employers remain responsible for determining applicable requirements and ensuring equipment-specific instruction, practical training, evaluation, authorization, supervision, exposure controls, protective equipment, work-zone controls, hazardous-energy-control procedures, and documentation appropriate to the equipment, task, and workplace.

Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete applicable training and evaluation requirements may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of the Soil Stabilizer / Reclaimer Operator Safety Training program.

The certificate documents training completed and should not be represented as an OSHA-issued credential, governmental operator license, or governmental certification.
