A.R.G. Safety Leadership for Supervisors & Foremen Training
The A.R.G. Safety Leadership for Supervisors & Foremen Training program is designed to help supervisors, foremen, lead workers, team leaders, managers, and other personnel with workplace leadership responsibilities strengthen their ability to promote safe work practices, recognize hazards, communicate safety expectations, address unsafe conditions and behaviors, and support an effective workplace safety culture.
The program emphasizes the important role frontline leadership plays in translating organizational safety policies and procedures into daily workplace practices. Participants learn practical approaches for safety communication, hazard recognition, employee involvement, pre-task planning, incident prevention, corrective action, and leadership accountability.
Program Objectives
Upon successful completion of this training, participants should be able to:
- Understand the safety leadership responsibilities of supervisors and foremen.
- Recognize the influence frontline leadership has on workplace safety culture.
- Communicate safety expectations clearly and consistently.
- Promote employee participation in workplace safety activities.
- Recognize workplace hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Recognize unsafe work practices and behaviors requiring appropriate intervention.
- Understand the importance of correcting identified hazards in a timely manner.
- Support effective Job Hazard Analysis (JHA/JSA) and pre-task planning activities.
- Conduct effective toolbox talks, safety meetings, and pre-job discussions.
- Understand appropriate Stop-Work Authority principles and escalation procedures.
- Provide constructive safety coaching and feedback.
- Understand the importance of documenting safety observations and corrective actions.
- Recognize the supervisor’s role in incident and near-miss reporting.
- Support workplace incident and near-miss investigations.
- Recognize the importance of following established safety policies and procedures.
- Understand the relationship between training, supervision, accountability, and employee performance.
- Promote professional communication and respectful workplace interactions.
- Lead by example and demonstrate consistent commitment to workplace safety.

Frontline Safety Leadership
Participants learn how frontline supervisors and foremen can positively influence workplace safety through consistent communication, visible leadership, hazard recognition, employee involvement, appropriate intervention, follow-up, and reinforcement of established safety expectations.
Pre-Task Planning & Hazard Recognition
The program addresses the supervisor’s role in reviewing work activities before work begins, identifying potential hazards, communicating appropriate controls, reviewing applicable JHAs/JSAs, and responding when workplace conditions or work activities change.
Safety Communication
Training addresses practical methods for conducting toolbox talks, pre-job meetings, safety discussions, employee coaching, and other workplace safety communications intended to improve employee understanding and participation.
Incident & Near-Miss Responsibilities
Participants receive instruction on the supervisor’s role in promptly reporting incidents and near misses, preserving relevant information when appropriate, supporting investigations, communicating lessons learned, and helping ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Employer-Specific Training
When included within the agreed training scope, A.R.G. may incorporate employer-specific safety policies, JHA/JSA procedures, Stop-Work Authority procedures, disciplinary policies, incident reporting requirements, inspection procedures, emergency requirements, supervisory responsibilities, communication procedures, and other workplace-specific expectations.
Certificate of Training
Participants who successfully complete the applicable training requirements and required assessments may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training.
