A.R.G. Safety Inspection & Hazard Recognition Training
The A.R.G. Safety Inspection & Hazard Recognition Training program is designed to help supervisors, foremen, managers, safety personnel, employees, and other responsible personnel develop a systematic approach to conducting workplace safety inspections, recognizing hazards, documenting findings, and supporting appropriate corrective actions.
The program emphasizes proactive hazard identification and prevention through planned workplace inspections, effective observation techniques, documentation, communication, corrective action follow-up, and continuous improvement.
Program Objectives
Upon successful completion of this training, participants should be able to:
- Understand the purpose and importance of workplace safety inspections.
- Recognize the difference between routine observations and formal safety inspections.
- Identify common workplace hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Recognize unsafe work practices that may require appropriate intervention.
- Understand basic hazard recognition principles.
- Plan and prepare for a workplace safety inspection.
- Use inspection checklists appropriately while remaining alert for hazards not specifically listed.
- Observe workplace conditions, equipment, work practices, and employee activities systematically.
- Identify conditions that may require immediate corrective action.
- Recognize when work should be stopped or escalated in accordance with employer procedures.
- Document inspection observations and findings clearly.
- Use photographs and other documentation appropriately when permitted.
- Communicate inspection findings to appropriate personnel.
- Understand basic hazard prioritization and corrective action principles.
- Apply the hierarchy of controls when evaluating potential corrective measures.
- Track corrective actions and verify completion when assigned.
- Recognize recurring hazards and trends that may require additional evaluation.
- Understand the relationship between inspections, JHAs/JSAs, incident investigations, training, and workplace safety programs.

Workplace Inspection Process
Participants are introduced to a systematic inspection process that may include planning the inspection, reviewing applicable workplace information, observing work activities and conditions, identifying hazards, documenting findings, communicating observations, recommending or initiating appropriate corrective actions within assigned authority, and following up on identified deficiencies.
Hazard Recognition
Training may address common workplace hazards involving walking-working surfaces, housekeeping, electrical systems, tools and equipment, personal protective equipment, material handling, fall exposures, struck-by and caught-in-between hazards, fire prevention, chemical hazards, ergonomics, work areas, access and egress, and other hazards applicable to the workplace.
Practical Training
When included within the agreed training scope, participants may complete practical exercises using photographs, workplace scenarios, inspection checklists, simulated work areas, or actual workplace conditions to practice hazard recognition, documentation, and inspection techniques.

Employer-Specific Training
When requested, A.R.G. may incorporate employer-specific inspection forms, checklists, safety policies, reporting procedures, corrective action systems, Stop-Work Authority procedures, JHA/JSA requirements, and other workplace-specific inspection requirements into the training.
Certificate of Training
Participants who successfully complete the applicable training requirements and required assessments may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training.
