A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Operator Safety Training designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical understanding necessary to safely operate ATVs used in construction, industrial, agricultural, utility, maintenance, inspection, and other workplace operations.

This training program addresses equipment familiarization, pre-operation inspection, active riding techniques, stability, terrain, slopes, turning, braking, cargo, towing, personal protective equipment, manufacturer requirements, and operator responsibilities. Practical operator evaluation may be provided when applicable and when suitable equipment is available.

Training Discipline: All-Terrain Vehicle & Mobile Equipment Operator Safety

Equipment: All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), as Applicable

Training Format: Instructor-led classroom and/or online instruction with practical equipment training and operator evaluation as applicable.

Practical Training: When provided as part of operator qualification, hands-on training should address the specific ATV configuration, controls, braking and steering characteristics, active riding techniques, terrain limitations, cargo capacity, attachments, operating characteristics, and hazards associated with the vehicle the participant is expected to operate.

Operator Evaluation: Practical evaluation, when required by the employer, project, manufacturer instructions, or applicable requirements, should be performed using an ATV representative of the type the participant will operate and under representative workplace and terrain conditions.

Rider Safety Notice: ATVs require active rider participation. Changes in body position and weight distribution can significantly affect vehicle handling and stability. Operators should receive equipment-specific familiarization and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for safe riding techniques.

Passenger Safety Notice: Passengers should not be carried on an ATV unless the vehicle is specifically designed by the manufacturer for more than one occupant and the passenger uses the designated seating and protection features provided by the manufacturer.

Rollover Prevention Notice: ATV stability can be significantly affected by speed, turning, slopes, terrain, cargo, towing, rider position, attachments, and changing surface conditions. Operators should follow manufacturer operating limitations and applicable site-specific safe work procedures.

Cargo & Towing Notice: Cargo and towing can affect steering, braking, stability, and stopping distance. Manufacturer-rated capacities, load distribution requirements, attachment limitations, and towing instructions should be followed.

Public-Road Notice: This training does not establish that an ATV is legally permitted for operation on public roads and does not replace any driver’s license, registration, insurance, permit, equipment requirement, or other credential that may be required by the applicable jurisdiction.

Employer Responsibility Notice: Completion of this A.R.G. training program does not by itself authorize an individual to operate an ATV. Employers remain responsible for ensuring operators are appropriately trained, familiarized, evaluated, authorized, and competent for the specific vehicle, tasks, terrain, hazards, and workplace conditions involved.

Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete applicable training and evaluation requirements may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of the All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Operator Safety Training program.

The certificate documents training completed and should not be represented as a driver’s license or governmental operator license.
