1518 – Trencher Operator Safety Training
A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides Trencher Operator Safety Training designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical understanding necessary to safely operate trenching equipment and recognize hazards associated with cutting, excavating, underground utilities, moving components, ground conditions, and construction-site operations.
This training program addresses equipment familiarization, pre-operation inspection, workplace hazards, underground utility awareness, stability, trenching attachments, safe travel, machine positioning, manufacturer requirements, and operator responsibilities. Practical operator evaluation may be provided when applicable and when suitable equipment is available.

Training Discipline: Heavy Equipment Operator Safety
Equipment: Trencher / Walk-Behind Trencher / Ride-On Trencher, as Applicable
Training Format: Instructor-led classroom and/or online instruction with practical equipment training and operator evaluation as applicable.
Practical Training: When provided as part of operator qualification, hands-on training should address the specific trencher configuration, controls, cutting system, attachments, operating characteristics, limitations, and hazards associated with the equipment the participant is expected to operate.
Operator Evaluation: Practical evaluation, when required by the employer, project, manufacturer instructions, or applicable requirements, should be performed using equipment representative of the type the participant will operate and under representative workplace conditions.
Underground Utility Safety Notice: Trenching operations can expose workers to serious hazards from underground electrical, gas, communication, water, sewer, and other utility systems. Applicable utility-location and excavation requirements must be addressed before trenching begins. Operators should not begin excavation until required utility-location procedures and site controls have been completed.
Excavation Safety Notice: Trencher operator training does not replace applicable excavation and trench-protection requirements. Employers remain responsible for evaluating excavation hazards and providing protective systems, access, inspections, and other controls when required by applicable standards.
Employer Responsibility Notice: Completion of this A.R.G. training program does not by itself authorize an individual to operate a trencher. Employers remain responsible for ensuring operators are appropriately trained, familiarized, evaluated, authorized, and competent for the specific equipment, attachments, tasks, hazards, utilities, and workplace conditions involved.
Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete applicable training and evaluation requirements may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of the Trencher Operator Safety Training program.
The certificate documents training completed and should not be represented as a governmental operator license.
