1525 – Street Sweeper Operator Safety Training
A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides Street Sweeper Operator Safety Training designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical understanding necessary to safely operate street sweepers used in construction, roadway maintenance, municipal, commercial, industrial, and site-cleaning operations.
This training program addresses equipment familiarization, pre-operation inspection, traffic and pedestrian hazards, safe travel, sweeping systems, brushes, vacuum systems, debris hoppers, water systems, dumping operations, visibility, manufacturer requirements, and operator responsibilities. Practical operator evaluation may be provided when applicable and when suitable equipment is available.

Training Discipline: Mobile Equipment & Roadway Maintenance Safety
Equipment: Street Sweeper / Mechanical Broom Sweeper / Vacuum Sweeper / Regenerative-Air Sweeper, as Applicable
Training Format: Instructor-led classroom and/or online instruction with practical equipment training and operator evaluation as applicable.
Practical Training: When provided as part of operator qualification, hands-on training should address the specific sweeper configuration, vehicle controls, sweeping system, brushes, vacuum or air system, water system, debris hopper, hydraulic system, operating characteristics, limitations, and hazards associated with the equipment the participant is expected to operate.
Operator Evaluation: Practical evaluation, when required by the employer, project, manufacturer instructions, or applicable requirements, should be performed using equipment representative of the type the participant will operate and under representative workplace conditions.
Roadway & Traffic Safety Notice: Street sweeper operations may expose operators and ground personnel to moving traffic, pedestrians, bicycles, construction equipment, limited visibility, and changing roadway conditions. Applicable traffic-control plans, warning devices, high-visibility measures, communication procedures, and work-zone controls should be implemented as appropriate.
Rotating Equipment Safety Notice: Sweeper brushes, brooms, conveyors, fans, vacuum systems, and related components can create entanglement, crushing, pinch-point, suction, and flying-object hazards. Operators and workers should remain clear of moving components and follow manufacturer shutdown and servicing procedures.
Raised Hopper Safety Notice: Raised debris hoppers and other elevated components can create serious crushing and stored-energy hazards. Personnel should not work beneath raised components unless appropriate manufacturer-approved supports, isolation procedures, and other required safeguards are in place.
Driver Qualification Notice: This training does not replace a driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), endorsement, medical qualification, or other credential that may be required for operation of a particular street sweeper or vehicle on public roads.
Employer Responsibility Notice: Completion of this A.R.G. training program does not by itself authorize an individual to operate a street sweeper. Employers remain responsible for ensuring operators possess applicable driving credentials and are appropriately trained, familiarized, evaluated, authorized, and competent for the specific vehicle, equipment, tasks, hazards, and workplace conditions involved.
Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete applicable training and evaluation requirements may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of the Street Sweeper Operator Safety Training program.
The certificate documents training completed and should not be represented as a driver’s license, CDL, governmental operator license, or other governmental credential.
