Description
This training provides fundamental rigging safety instruction for personnel assigned responsibilities involving lifting and material-handling operations. The course focuses on recognizing common rigging hazards and understanding safe practices associated with the selection, inspection, use, and handling of basic rigging equipment.
Topics may include rigging hardware, wire rope, synthetic slings, chain slings, sling configurations, hitch types, load control, load weight and center of gravity, working load limits, sling angles, equipment inspections, basic hand signals, suspended-load hazards, and safe lifting practices.
Participants will receive instruction designed to improve their ability to recognize rigging hazards, identify damaged or defective rigging equipment, and understand fundamental precautions associated with lifting operations.
This training is intended to supplement an employer’s site-specific rigging procedures and safety program. Completion of this course does not, by itself, designate or certify an individual as a Competent Person or Qualified Rigger for every lifting or rigging operation.
Employers remain responsible for determining employee qualifications and competency based on assigned duties, equipment, workplace conditions, applicable regulations, and any required practical evaluation.
Applicable references may include OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC and other applicable OSHA requirements, manufacturer instructions, and recognized industry safe rigging practices.
