1528 – Personnel / Material Hoist Operator Safety Training
A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides Personnel / Material Hoist Operator Safety Training designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical understanding necessary to safely operate construction hoists used for transporting personnel and/or materials at construction and industrial worksites.
This training program addresses equipment familiarization, pre-operation inspection, access control, rated capacity, loading and unloading, gates and interlocks, communication, landing areas, electrical and mechanical hazards, emergency procedures, manufacturer requirements, and operator responsibilities. Practical operator evaluation may be provided when applicable and when suitable equipment is available.

Training Discipline: Construction Hoist & Material Handling Safety
Equipment: Personnel Hoist / Material Hoist / Construction Hoist, as Applicable
Training Format: Instructor-led classroom and/or online instruction with practical equipment training and operator evaluation as applicable.
Practical Training: When provided as part of operator qualification, hands-on training should address the specific hoist configuration, operating controls, gates, interlocks, safety devices, rated capacity, loading procedures, landing arrangements, emergency controls, manufacturer limitations, and hazards associated with the equipment the participant is expected to operate.
Operator Evaluation: Practical evaluation, when required by the employer, project, manufacturer instructions, or applicable requirements, should be performed using equipment representative of the hoist the participant will operate and under representative workplace conditions.
Personnel vs. Material Hoist Notice: Equipment designated for material handling only should not be used to transport personnel unless the equipment is specifically designed, configured, and permitted for personnel transportation under applicable requirements and manufacturer instructions.
Capacity Notice: Hoist rated capacity, personnel limits, material-loading restrictions, load distribution requirements, and manufacturer operating limitations should be observed at all times. Operators should not exceed the rated capacity of the equipment.
Gate & Interlock Safety Notice: Required gates, doors, interlocks, guards, limit devices, and other safety systems should remain functional and should not be bypassed, defeated, or improperly modified.
Installation & Inspection Notice: Operator training does not replace requirements applicable to the erection, installation, alteration, inspection, testing, maintenance, or repair of personnel or material hoists. These functions may require appropriately qualified or designated personnel and compliance with applicable manufacturer, project, and regulatory requirements.
Employer Responsibility Notice: Completion of this A.R.G. training program does not by itself authorize an individual to operate a personnel or material hoist. Employers remain responsible for ensuring operators are appropriately trained, familiarized, evaluated, authorized, and competent for the specific equipment, tasks, hazards, and workplace conditions involved.
Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete applicable training and evaluation requirements may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of the Personnel / Material Hoist Operator Safety Training program.
The certificate documents training completed and should not be represented as a governmental operator license or equipment certification.
