Description

This training provides confined space safety instruction for personnel who work in or around confined spaces, including individuals who may be assigned responsibilities associated with competent person duties.

The course addresses the recognition, evaluation, and control of hazards associated with confined spaces and permit-required confined spaces. Topics may include identification of confined spaces, hazardous atmospheres, oxygen deficiency and enrichment, toxic and flammable contaminants, engulfment hazards, configuration hazards, isolation, ventilation, atmospheric testing and monitoring, access control, communication, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency considerations.

Participants will receive instruction on pre-entry evaluations, hazard assessments, atmospheric testing, entry procedures, permit systems, roles and responsibilities of authorized entrants, attendants and entry supervisors, methods for controlling hazards, and procedures for preventing unauthorized entry.

The training also addresses emergency and rescue considerations, including the importance of appropriate rescue planning, retrieval systems when applicable, communication procedures, and coordination with designated rescue services before confined-space entry operations begin.

This training is intended to supplement, not replace, an employer’s site-specific confined space program, entry permits, hazard assessments, rescue procedures, equipment-specific training, employee authorization, or other training required for assigned duties.

Completion of this course does not, by itself, designate an individual as a Competent Person, Qualified Person, Authorized Entrant, Attendant, Entry Supervisor, or confined-space rescuer. Employer designation, authorization, training, knowledge, experience, and demonstrated ability must be appropriate to the individual’s assigned responsibilities.

Applicable requirements may include OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA – Confined Spaces in Construction, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 – Permit-Required Confined Spaces, and other applicable workplace safety requirements.
