Workplace violence prevention training designed for employees and supervisors working in late-night retail establishments.

Training addresses workplace violence awareness, robbery-related hazards, cash-handling risks, working alone, warning signs, security measures, de-escalation principles, emergency response, incident reporting, and employee safety practices.

This course supplements the employer’s workplace violence prevention program, security procedures, emergency procedures, and site-specific training.

Description

Workplace violence is a recognized occupational safety concern that may include physical assault, threats, intimidation, harassment, verbal abuse, robbery-related violence, or other threatening behavior occurring in connection with the workplace.

This training provides employees and supervisors working in late-night retail establishments with awareness of workplace violence hazards, risk factors, prevention strategies, emergency procedures, and appropriate response practices.

Late-night retail establishments may face increased workplace violence risks because of factors such as working during late-night or early-morning hours, handling cash, working alone or with limited staffing, direct interaction with the public, isolated work locations, and exposure to robbery or other criminal activity.

Training topics may include:

• Workplace Violence Awareness
• Recognition of Warning Signs and Threatening Behavior
• Late-Night Retail Risk Factors
• Robbery and Criminal Activity Awareness
• Cash-Handling Safety Practices
• Working Alone and Limited-Staffing Considerations
• Access Control and Security Measures
• Lighting and Visibility
• Surveillance and Alarm Systems
• Maintaining Clear Visibility Within the Workplace

• Supervisor and Management Responsibilities

Employees should be trained to recognize potentially dangerous situations, follow established workplace violence prevention procedures, promptly report threats or suspicious activity, and understand their responsibilities during an emergency.

Employees should not be expected to place themselves in unnecessary danger or physically intervene in violent incidents unless specifically trained, authorized, and assigned to perform such duties.

Employers should evaluate workplace-specific risk factors and implement appropriate engineering controls, administrative controls, work practices, security measures, employee training, and emergency procedures based on the nature of the establishment and identified hazards.

This training is intended to supplement, not replace, the employer’s workplace violence prevention program, emergency action procedures, security procedures, site-specific training, company policies, or applicable federal, state, or local requirements.

Completion of this course does not qualify an individual to perform law-enforcement, security, emergency-response, or other specialized duties requiring additional training, licensing, certification, or employer authorization.
