A.R.G. Job Hazard Analysis (JHA/JSA) Training
The A.R.G. Job Hazard Analysis (JHA/JSA) Training program is designed to help employees, supervisors, foremen, managers, safety personnel, and other workplace personnel understand how to systematically evaluate work activities, identify hazards, establish appropriate control measures, and document a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) or Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
This training emphasizes proactive hazard recognition and risk reduction before work begins and when workplace conditions, equipment, materials, procedures, or assigned tasks change.
Program Objectives
Upon successful completion of this training, participants should be able to:
- Understand the purpose and basic principles of a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA/JSA).
- Recognize when a JHA/JSA may be appropriate for a work activity.
- Select jobs and tasks for analysis based on workplace hazards and operational considerations.
- Break a job or task into logical work steps.
- Identify hazards associated with each work step.
- Recognize existing and potential workplace hazards.
- Consider routine and non-routine work conditions during the analysis.
- Recognize changes in personnel, equipment, materials, procedures, and environmental conditions that may affect the analysis.
- Identify appropriate hazard prevention and control measures.
- Understand the hierarchy of controls as a framework for evaluating hazard controls.
- Recognize the importance of employee participation in the JHA/JSA process.
- Document work steps, hazards, and control measures in a clear and usable format.
- Communicate JHA/JSA requirements to affected employees before work begins.
- Understand the importance of reviewing and updating a JHA/JSA when conditions change.
- Recognize the relationship between JHA/JSA development, workplace inspections, incident prevention, and employee training.

JHA/JSA Development Process
Participants are introduced to a systematic process for evaluating work activities, including identifying the job or task, breaking the activity into logical steps, recognizing hazards associated with each step, determining appropriate preventive or control measures, documenting the analysis, communicating the requirements to affected employees, and reviewing the analysis when workplace conditions change.
Practical Training
When included within the agreed training scope, participants may complete practical exercises involving sample work activities, photographs, workplace scenarios, or actual job tasks to practice developing and reviewing Job Hazard Analyses or Job Safety Analyses.

Employer-Specific Training
When requested, A.R.G. may incorporate employer-specific JHA/JSA forms, hazard assessment procedures, pre-task planning requirements, approval processes, safety policies, reporting procedures, and examples from the employer’s operations into the training.
Certificate of Training
Participants who successfully complete the applicable training requirements and required assessments may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training.
