A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides Hot Work Fire Prevention & Permit Safety Training designed to help employees recognize and control fire hazards associated with welding, cutting, brazing, soldering, grinding, torch-applied work, and other operations capable of producing flames, heat, sparks, or hot material.

The program addresses hot-work hazard assessment, combustible-material control, fire-watch considerations, fire-extinguishing equipment, hot-work permit awareness, emergency procedures, post-work monitoring, and workplace-specific responsibilities.

This training is appropriate for construction, general industry, maintenance, manufacturing, fabrication, repair operations, commercial facilities, industrial facilities, and other workplaces where hot work may be performed.

Training Discipline: Hot Work, Fire Prevention, Permit Awareness & Workplace Life Safety

Hot Work Permit Notice: Hot-work permit requirements vary according to the workplace, operation, employer program, applicable OSHA requirements, fire codes, authority having jurisdiction, contractual requirements, and site-specific procedures. This training provides permit-system awareness and does not independently authorize an employee to issue, approve, or perform work under a hot-work permit.

Authorization Notice: Employees should perform hot work only when appropriately trained, authorized, and operating under the employer’s applicable procedures. Completion of this course alone does not constitute authorization to perform welding, cutting, brazing, burning, grinding, or other hot-work operations.

Fire Prevention Notice: Before hot work begins, the work area should be evaluated for applicable fire hazards. Combustible and flammable materials should be removed, protected, isolated, or otherwise controlled in accordance with applicable requirements and workplace procedures.

Fire Watch Notice: A fire watch may be required based on the operation and surrounding conditions. The employer is responsible for determining when a fire watch is required, the number and positioning of personnel, required equipment, communication methods, and applicable monitoring period.

Post-Work Monitoring: The required duration of a fire watch or post-work inspection should be determined from the applicable standard, permit, fire code, employer procedure, authority having jurisdiction, and site conditions. This course does not establish one universal post-hot-work monitoring period for every workplace.

Confined Space Notice: Hot work performed in or around permit-required confined spaces may involve additional hazards and regulatory requirements. This course does not replace required confined-space entry, atmospheric testing, ventilation, rescue, or permit procedures.

Container & Tank Notice: Welding, cutting, heating, or other hot work on tanks, drums, vessels, piping, containers, or equipment that contain or previously contained hazardous substances can create severe fire, explosion, and toxic-exposure hazards. Applicable cleaning, isolation, testing, authorization, and other controls must be established before work begins.

Qualification Limitation: This course does not qualify or certify a participant as a welder, welding inspector, fire watch, firefighter, fire inspector, fire protection technician, confined-space entrant, gas tester, or other specialized professional unless separate applicable qualification requirements have been completed and documented.

Workplace-Specific Notice: Employers remain responsible for identifying hot-work hazards, establishing required permit and authorization procedures, determining fire-watch requirements, providing appropriate fire-protection equipment, implementing emergency procedures, and providing equipment- and workplace-specific training.

Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete applicable training requirements may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of the Hot Work Fire Prevention & Permit Safety Training program.

The certificate documents training completed and should not be represented as an OSHA-issued credential, welding certification, hot-work license, firefighter certification, fire inspector certification, or governmental certification.
