1554 – Concrete Slipform Paver Operator Safety Training
A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides Concrete Slipform Paver Operator Safety Training designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical understanding necessary to safely operate concrete slipform pavers and similar paving equipment used for highways, roadways, airport pavements, curbs, gutters, barriers, sidewalks, drainage structures, and other applicable concrete construction operations.
Concrete slipform paving operations can expose operators and ground personnel to moving equipment, wet concrete, conveyors, augers, vibrators, hydraulic systems, pinch and crush points, limited visibility, haul and delivery vehicles, traffic, uneven terrain, electrical hazards, noise, and other hazards. This training program addresses equipment familiarization, pre-operation inspection, safe paving procedures, concrete delivery, material-distribution systems, slipform components, work-zone traffic, pedestrian protection, equipment stability, hazardous-energy control, manufacturer requirements, and operator responsibilities.

Training Discipline: Concrete Paving, Heavy Civil Construction & Mobile Equipment Safety
Equipment: Concrete Slipform Paver / Mainline Paver / Curb & Gutter Paver / Barrier Paver / Specialty Slipform Paving Equipment, as Applicable
Training Format: Training may include formal instruction, demonstrations, practical equipment training, and evaluation of operator performance, as applicable.
Practical Training: Practical training should be appropriate to the specific concrete slipform paver the participant is expected to operate. Training should address controls, steering, grade systems, concrete delivery, conveyors, augers, vibrators, forming systems, visibility, truck interaction, work-zone conditions, and other equipment-specific operating characteristics.
Wet Concrete Safety Notice: Wet concrete and cementitious materials can cause serious skin and eye irritation and chemical burns. Employees should use appropriate protective equipment, avoid prolonged skin contact, promptly remove contaminated clothing, and follow workplace procedures for washing and emergency exposure response.
Conveyor, Auger & Vibrator Safety Notice: Conveyors, augers, vibrators, shafts, and other moving components can create caught-in, entanglement, pinch-point, crushing, and other mechanical hazards. Required guards and protective devices should remain properly installed and functional during operation.
Truck Interaction Notice: Concrete mixer trucks and other material-delivery vehicles may operate in close proximity to the paver and ground personnel. Employers should establish appropriate communication, positioning, backing, traffic, and separation procedures for delivery operations.
Slipform & Pinch-Point Notice: Slipform molds, steering components, tracks, hydraulic systems, and adjustable machine components can create crushing and pinch-point hazards. Personnel should maintain appropriate clearance during movement and adjustment.
Work-Zone Traffic Notice: Concrete paving operations may occur adjacent to public or construction traffic. Appropriate temporary traffic controls, high-visibility apparel, equipment separation, communication, and site-specific procedures should be implemented as applicable.
Energy-Control Notice: Operators should not enter hazardous areas, remove guards, clear jams, clean dangerous moving components, adjust hazardous mechanisms, or perform servicing unless equipment has been appropriately shut down and hazardous energy controlled according to applicable procedures.
Equipment-Specific Training Notice: Concrete slipform pavers vary significantly in controls, dimensions, steering systems, grade controls, conveyors, augers, vibrators, forming systems, hydraulic systems, safety devices, and operating characteristics. Operators should receive instruction and familiarization appropriate to the specific equipment they are expected to operate.
Employer Responsibility Notice: Completion of an A.R.G. classroom or knowledge-based training component does not by itself authorize an individual to operate a concrete slipform paver. Employers remain responsible for determining applicable requirements and ensuring equipment-specific instruction, practical training, evaluation, authorization, supervision, protective equipment, work-zone controls, energy-control procedures, and documentation appropriate to the equipment, task, and workplace.
Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete applicable training and evaluation requirements may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of the Concrete Slipform Paver Operator Safety Training program.
The certificate documents training completed and should not be represented as an OSHA-issued credential, governmental operator license, or governmental certification.
