A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides Boom Truck Operator Safety Awareness Training designed to provide participants with foundational safety knowledge related to boom trucks and truck-mounted lifting equipment used in construction, utilities, material delivery, industrial operations, maintenance, and other applicable workplaces.

Boom trucks can combine commercial-vehicle operation with crane or lifting functions. Depending on the equipment configuration and how it is used, additional crane operator training, certification, licensing, employer evaluation, signal-person, rigging, inspection, or other requirements may apply.

This awareness-level program addresses equipment familiarization, pre-operation inspection, setup, ground conditions, outriggers and stabilizers, capacity and load-chart awareness, boom operation, lifting hazards, rigging awareness, suspended loads, swing radius, electrical hazards, communication, and emergency procedures.

Training Discipline: Mobile Crane & Boom Truck Safety Awareness

Equipment: Boom Truck / Truck-Mounted Crane / Telescopic Boom Truck / Articulating Boom Truck, as Applicable

Training Level: Safety Awareness Training

Training Format: Training may include formal instruction, demonstrations, equipment familiarization, hazard recognition, and knowledge assessment. This awareness course is not intended to replace any crane operator certification, licensing, practical examination, or employer evaluation required for a particular operation.

Crane Operator Certification Notice: Depending on the equipment and operation, OSHA crane requirements under 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC or other applicable standards may require operator training, certification or licensing, and employer evaluation, subject to applicable scope provisions and exceptions. Completion of this A.R.G. awareness course does not constitute crane operator certification or licensing.

Load Chart Notice: Boom truck capacity can change based on operating radius, boom length, boom angle, equipment configuration, outrigger or stabilizer position, lifting attachment, load weight, and other factors. Operators performing lifting operations must understand and follow the load chart and manufacturer requirements applicable to the specific equipment.

Rigging Notice: This course provides rigging hazard awareness only. It does not by itself establish that a participant meets any applicable qualified-rigger requirement. Employers must determine and document qualifications appropriate to the rigging work being performed.

Signal Person Notice: Awareness of hand signals does not by itself qualify a participant as a signal person. Where applicable, signal persons must meet the qualification requirements established by the applicable standard.

Power-Line Safety Notice: Boom trucks operating near energized power lines can expose workers to fatal electrical hazards. Employers and operators must identify electrical hazards and follow applicable planning, clearance, encroachment-prevention, and protective requirements before beginning operations.

Personnel Hoisting Notice: Hoisting personnel with crane or boom-truck equipment can involve additional equipment, platform, inspection, trial-lift, proof-test, fall-protection, planning, and operational requirements. This awareness course does not by itself authorize personnel-hoisting operations.

Driver Qualification Notice: This training does not replace a driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), endorsement, medical qualification, or other credential that may be required to operate the vehicle on public roads.

Equipment-Specific Training Notice: Boom trucks vary significantly in controls, load charts, boom systems, outriggers, operational aids, lifting capacities, attachments, and operating characteristics. Operators must receive training and familiarization appropriate to the specific equipment and operations they are expected to perform.

Employer Responsibility Notice: Completion of this A.R.G. awareness program does not by itself authorize an individual to operate a boom truck or crane. Employers remain responsible for determining applicable regulatory requirements and ensuring required operator training, certification or licensing, employer evaluation, equipment-specific familiarization, authorization, inspection, supervision, and documentation requirements are satisfied.

Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete this program may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of Boom Truck Operator Safety Awareness Training.

The certificate documents awareness training completed and should not be represented as an OSHA-issued credential, governmental operator license, CDL, crane operator certification, qualified-rigger credential, or signal-person qualification.
