1517 – Scraper Operator Safety Training
A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides Scraper Operator Safety Training designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical understanding necessary to safely operate earthmoving scrapers and recognize hazards associated with cutting, loading, hauling, spreading, grading, and large-scale earthmoving operations.
This training program addresses equipment familiarization, pre-operation inspection, workplace hazards, equipment stability, loading and unloading operations, haul-route safety, slopes and grades, visibility, manufacturer requirements, and operator responsibilities. Practical operator evaluation may be provided when applicable and when suitable equipment is available.

Training Discipline: Heavy Equipment Operator Safety
Equipment: Motor Scraper / Earthmoving Scraper, as Applicable
Training Format: Instructor-led classroom and/or online instruction with practical equipment training and operator evaluation as applicable.
Practical Training: When provided as part of operator qualification, hands-on training should address the specific equipment configuration, controls, loading system, bowl and ejector operation, operating characteristics, limitations, and hazards associated with the scraper the participant is expected to operate.
Operator Evaluation: Practical evaluation, when required by the employer, project, manufacturer instructions, or applicable requirements, should be performed using equipment representative of the type the participant will operate and under representative workplace conditions.
Haul-Route Safety Notice: Scraper operations frequently involve repeated travel between loading and dumping areas. Haul routes should be evaluated for grades, intersections, equipment traffic, pedestrians, visibility, road conditions, edge hazards, and other conditions that could affect safe operation.
Multi-Equipment Operations Notice: Push-loading and other coordinated earthmoving operations can involve multiple pieces of heavy equipment operating in close proximity. Appropriate communication, separation, traffic patterns, and site-specific procedures should be established before these operations are performed.
Employer Responsibility Notice: Completion of this A.R.G. training program does not by itself authorize an individual to operate a scraper. Employers remain responsible for ensuring operators are appropriately trained, familiarized, evaluated, authorized, and competent for the specific equipment, tasks, hazards, haul routes, and workplace conditions involved.
Training Certificate: Participants who successfully complete applicable training and evaluation requirements may receive an A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health Certificate of Training documenting completion of the Scraper Operator Safety Training program.
The certificate documents training completed and should not be represented as a governmental operator license.
