902 – MSHA Part 46 Newly Hired Experienced Miner Training

A.R.G. Construction, Safety & Health provides Newly Hired Experienced Miner Training developed to address the requirements of 30 CFR Part 46, §46.6.

This training is intended for individuals who meet the applicable Part 46 definition of an experienced miner and are newly hired at a mining operation covered by Part 46.

Training Before Beginning Work:

• Introduction to the work environment and mine operation
• Mine tour or representative walk-around training
• Recognition and avoidance of electrical hazards
• Recognition and avoidance of other mine-specific hazards
• Traffic patterns and traffic control
• Mobile equipment hazards
• Loose or unstable ground conditions
• Emergency medical procedures
• Escape and emergency evacuation procedures
• Fire warning signals and firefighting procedures
• Health and safety aspects of assigned tasks
• Safe work procedures for assigned tasks
• Applicable mandatory health and safety standards
• Statutory rights of miners and miners’ representatives
• Mine supervisory authority and responsibilities
• Rules and procedures for reporting hazards

Additional Training:

Where self-rescue or respiratory devices are used at the mine, applicable instruction and demonstration on their use, care, and maintenance must be provided within the regulatory timeframe established by Part 46.

Course Duration: No fixed minimum number of hours is established under §46.6. Training duration is determined by the miner’s occupational experience, assigned duties, mining methods, workplace conditions, and applicable Part 46 training plan.

Regulatory Reference: Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), 30 CFR Part 46, §46.6.

Mine-Specific Training: Training must address site-specific hazards and conditions applicable to the mining operation where the experienced miner will work.

Training Documentation: Training records must be completed and certified in accordance with applicable 30 CFR Part 46 requirements.
