{"id":6964,"date":"2017-07-19T20:05:23","date_gmt":"2017-07-19T20:05:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/argcsh.org\/?post_type=product&#038;p=6964"},"modified":"2026-09-25T18:23:22","modified_gmt":"2026-09-25T22:23:22","slug":"hot-work-construction-industry-for-competent-person","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/argcsh.org\/es\/product\/hot-work-construction-industry-for-competent-person\/","title":{"rendered":"600 \u2013 Hot Work Safety (Construction Industry)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This training provides instruction on the recognition, evaluation, and control of hazards associated with hot work operations in the construction industry.<\/p>\n<p>Hot work activities may include welding, cutting, brazing, soldering, grinding, heating, torch-applied operations, and other work capable of producing flames, sparks, heat, or other ignition sources.<\/p>\n<p>The course addresses common hot work hazards including fire and explosion hazards, combustible and flammable materials, compressed gas cylinders, oxygen and fuel-gas equipment, welding and cutting equipment, electrical hazards, sparks and hot slag, toxic fumes and gases, ultraviolet and infrared radiation, burns, ventilation, confined or enclosed spaces, and exposure to hazardous coatings and metals.<\/p>\n<p>Training topics may include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Hot work hazard recognition and assessment<br \/>\n\u2022 Welding, cutting, brazing, grinding, and heating operations<br \/>\n\u2022 Fire prevention and control measures<br \/>\n\u2022 Removal or protection of combustible materials<br \/>\n\u2022 Hot work permits and authorization procedures<br \/>\n\u2022 Fire watch responsibilities<br \/>\n\u2022 Fire extinguishing equipment<br \/>\n\u2022 Oxygen and fuel-gas cylinder handling and storage<br \/>\n\u2022 Inspection of hoses, regulators, torches, cables, and equipment<br \/>\n\u2022 Arc welding and cutting safety<br \/>\n\u2022 Ventilation and control of welding fumes and gases<br \/>\n\u2022 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)<br \/>\n\u2022 Eye, face, hand, body, and respiratory protection<br \/>\n\u2022 Protection of nearby employees from sparks and arc radiation<br \/>\n\u2022 Work in confined or enclosed spaces<br \/>\n\u2022 Emergency procedures and incident prevention<br \/>\n\u2022 Post-work inspection and fire monitoring<\/p>\n<p>Particular attention is given to fire prevention. Before hot work begins, the work area should be evaluated for combustible materials, flammable substances, hazardous atmospheres, and conditions that could allow sparks, heat, or molten material to create a fire or explosion hazard.<\/p>\n<p>Where normal fire prevention precautions are not sufficient, appropriate additional precautions may include relocating or protecting combustible materials, using fire-resistant barriers or screens, providing suitable fire-extinguishing equipment, and assigning properly instructed fire-watch personnel as required.<\/p>\n<p>Applicable construction requirements include OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart J \u2013 Welding and Cutting, including 1926.350 Gas Welding and Cutting, 1926.351 Arc Welding and Cutting, 1926.352 Fire Prevention, 1926.353 Ventilation and Protection in Welding, Cutting, and Heating, and 1926.354 Welding, Cutting, and Heating in Way of Preservative Coatings.<\/p>\n<p>Additional OSHA requirements may apply depending on the work activity, materials, equipment, atmospheric conditions, location, and employee exposures.<\/p>\n<p>This training is intended to supplement, not replace, the employer&#8217;s site-specific hot work program, fire prevention procedures, permit requirements, hazard assessments, equipment-specific training, manufacturer instructions, respiratory protection requirements, or other applicable safety procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Completion of this course does not, by itself, authorize an individual to perform hot work, serve as a fire watch, or satisfy employer-specific qualification or authorization requirements.
